Blending Masculine and Feminine Styles

One of the biggest dilemmas individuals face when moving in with their significant other is blending the two styles together. Men and women typically have a completely different idea when it comes to home decoration, therefore trying to blend the two styles together can be a difficult task. There are even reality shows on television that follow the process of blending to households together. There are definitely distinct differences between masculine and feminine decorating styles, however, this does not mean that the two styles cannot be blended together to make a cohesive living space.While most men would say that they leave the home interior decorating to their wife or significant other, this does not mean that they do not have a sense of style. When men get involved in the decorating process they have a distinct idea in mind of what they want when it comes to the furniture and other accessories. Men tend to want furniture that is sturdy and reliable. They favor functionality and practicality over the design and look of a particular piece of furniture. Women on the other hand like detailed furniture that is floral and light. However this does not mean that you either have to have something functional or something designer. You can find furniture that is sturdy and practical but that also has an edge of style and design. It's the best of both worlds.When it comes to paint colors men and women have distinct differences in this area as well. When it comes to paint colors, women tend to go for the brighter pastel colors and whites. They enjoy colors such as pinks, yellows and greens that add some light and color to the room. Men on the other hand, tend to look in a different direction when it comes to colors. They enjoy more muted colors such as tans and browns. The best way to compromise when it comes to paint colors is to mix and match. You can paint the walls a light feminine color but accent it with darker masculine furniture or trim.Men and women also see a difference when it comes to the types of fabrics that are used where it is in the living, bathroom or bedroom. Men continue with their muted colors theme by favoring fabrics such as leather, stripes and plaids. They also prefer study fabrics and textures. Women continue their like for brighter colors and patterns with fabrics as well. They enjoy shiny and soft materials such as silk. While these two different styles are completely different you can still blend them together. You can mix and match the different styles but still get the coordination and design you are looking for. You can choose a striped comforter for your bedroom to go with some silk pillows. Not all of these designs go together but they are not exclusive either.The biggest factor when it comes to blending masculine and feminine decorating styles together is compromise. If you and your partner are not willing to compromise when it comes to decorating you will have a decorating disaster waiting to happen. You can still get the style and furniture you are looking for while compromising. By looking at different styles you are expending your designing knowledge and who knows? You might actually like what you see.
